Anyone out there find themselves constantly craving chocolate, sugar, and sweets at all times of the day? We hear ya! While some people claim to have a “salty” preference, so many Americans find themselves instead craving sweets. This comes as a result of the added sugars, corn syrup, and other yucky ingredients to our mainstream food. Yes, some foods can actually cause you to crave more junk food. Crazy, huh?
But the great thing is, curing that sweet tooth doesn’t have to disappoint. It CAN taste good and be good for you. Here are our 5 favorite healthy desserts that will do the trick:
- Fresh berries sprinkled with chocolate chips. And yes, the chocolate chips you choose matter. Our favorite brand is Enjoy Life. Completely perfect for those with food allergies, full of rich, dark chocolate, and no added milk or junk. Want to flavor it even more? Add some coconut flakes. All-natural, real shredded coconut. Mmmmm.
- Coconut whipped cream.
Use on top of a fresh fruit dish, or alone. Use 1 14 oz. can of coconut cream (we prefer Trader Joe’s brand) and 1 tsp. vanilla extract by whipping the two together with a whisk. Chill in the fridge overnight. - Sweet potato topped with almond butter and 1 tsp. maple syrup. Yep, you heard that right. And it’s delicious. Consider adding pecans for a little crunch! We suggest Justin’s Maple Almond Butter, if you’d like to combine the two ingredients.
- Shakeology. I mean, you knew we were gonna say it, right? All flavors are delicious: Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Cafe Latte… Delicious. It will most definitely cure that milkshake craving, and leave your body feeling satisfied (because, well… it is).
- Fixate Chocolate Chip Cookies. They are the bomb.com. Don’t know what Fixate is? It’s the 21 Day Fix cookbook chock full of TONS of healthy recipes your family will love. Don’t have a copy? We should chat. Reach out!
You don’t have to deprive your body of sweets… but you DO need to opt for them in moderation. Every night is not quite moderation. Save up for a Saturday night splurge, or, if your taste buds get the best of you, take just a couple bites of that coconut whipped cream, or drink a full Shakeology, and put your conscious to rest.
Remember, drink lots of water (because often, what your body thinks is hunger is really thirst). Staying hydrated is often the key to combating cravings and to feeling alert throughout the day. But when a special occasion arises, or when you just can’t fight it go for one of these sweet treats and never look back.
