The number one complaint I hear from people is this:

“I just can’t stay on the wagon. I like my [insert food weakness here] too much.”

Usually, the complaint is followed by the question:

“Can you help me stay on track?”

The thing is, this journey is YOURS, not mine. I’m here to hold you accountable, but step #1 in this is knowing WHAT I’m holding you accountable for and WHY.

I’ve worked with hundreds of people in reaching their health and fitness goals. I’m going to expose the #1 secret to being able to achieve success, but I don’t want you to just read this post and move on. I want you to get out a pen and paper, and DO this. I assure it will help you.

WRITE. DOWN. YOUR. WHY.

Why are you committing to a daily workout? Why are you choosing to eat healthier foods? Why are you consciously making an effort to adjust your family’s nutrition? Why are you wanting a change?

The issue most folks have with losing sight of their goals is this: They remember WHAT their goal is (i.e., to lose 30 pounds), but not WHY they’re aiming for it. Let’s reexamine the earlier statements:

“I just can’t stay on the wagon. I like my [insert food weakness here] too much.”

Next, let’s look at a sample WHY statement:

“To be the healthiest mother and wife to my family. To set an example, and to be active with my kids.”

For every excuse that you make for yourself, insert your WHY. In other words:

“I just can’t stay on the wagon for my family to live healthier. I like my chocolate too much.”

Sounds pretty ridiculous, huh? The key to pursuing your health and fitness goals is all in the WHY. If your WHY is strong enough, you will never fail. You will never complain. You will follow through. And most importantly? You will succeed. Get out that pen and paper, and let’s get started.
