Welcome to the SYNC Your Life podcast episode #315! On this podcast, we will be diving into all things women’s hormones to help you learn how to live in alignment with your female physiology. Too many women are living with their check engine lights flashing. You know you feel “off” but no matter what you do, you can’t seem to have the energy, or lose the weight, or feel your best. This podcast exists to shed light on the important topic of healthy hormones and cycle syncing, to help you gain maximum energy in your life.
In today’s episode, I offer a reflective self-assessment to help you determine whether you are in a season of push, or a season of rest. Often as women, we don’t take the time to pause and reflect!

[00:00:00] Welcome friends to this episode of the [00:01:00] Sync Your Life podcast. Today, we’re doing a little bit of a self assessment. We’re going to help you navigate where you are in your health journey so that you know what tangible steps you can take to really get to where you want to be. Now, this is something that we as women don’t do very often.
We don’t take a step back to really figure out what we need in this moment. So we’re going to dedicate time right now. You’ve already hit play. We’ve got less than 10 minutes to go. It’ll be short and sweet, but it’ll be a really great opportunity for you to tap in to where your energy really lies right now and what you should be doing in your life when it comes to the season you’re in.
As usual, I want you to dial into your energy, your energy, not your coworkers or your spouse or your friends, but yours. So often we set goals and we find frustrations in our bodies or with our weight and we set out to dial it in or push harder, cue the latest fitness challenges or 21 day whatevers. And you have another case where we often don’t take time to pause and actually assess how we’re feeling and what we truly need.
So let’s start there. For the sake of this activity, do me a [00:02:00] favor and answer this question without thinking. Trust me, we will dive deeper, but for now, just answer this. Do you feel full of energy or do you feel exhausted? Remember this. And then we’ll dive deeper. Remember this. I’m gonna walk you through a series of questions that I want you to take a moment to answer for yourself.
Feel free to hit pause or even answer me out loud if you’re in the car or on a walk. This is meant to be a self assessment to help you navigate what you need. in the current season you’re in. So let’s begin. Question number one. Do you wake up in the morning feeling exhausted and tired, wishing that you could stay in bed?
Or do you feel high on life, with zero need for caffeine? Number two. Do you feel a bit too sedentary? Or are you constantly feeling sore and muscle fatigued? Number three. Are you getting adequate sleep each night, prioritizing seven hours minimum, bedtime routine?
Number four, do [00:03:00] your workouts bring you energy or deplete your energy? Number five, are you progressing in your workouts? By progressing we mean increasing your load and getting stronger. Number six, do you actively get 10, 000 steps per day from either just your lifestyle or by dedicating time to walk each day?
Number seven, are you over the age of 40 and in a state of stress? Number eight, how would you rate your hormone health? Is it optimal or are you struggling to get things in better balance? Number nine, would you categorize any of your emotions on a daily basis as overwhelmed? And number ten, have you been diagnosed with low cortisol or adrenal fatigue?
Now these are just some questions that you can use to assess yourself, but my friend again We often don’t even take the time to ask ourselves these questions I know for me, I’m your typical type A woman. I want to go from one challenge to the next, one push goal to the [00:04:00] next. And what winds up happening is my body ends up forcing me into rest and recovery when I push too hard.
On the flip side, I meet women daily who rest to a fault, who struggle to get the motivation to find any push. It turns out we have tendencies and guess what? Neither of them are wrong. Both are good. And I would challenge you here on this podcast to embrace both. Instead of seeing yourself as a pusher who needs rest, or a rester who needs push, see yourself simply for the season you’re in.
I’ll share with you my season. In this season that I’m in, I’m very limited on time with the schedule of my two young girls. And when you throw in the cyclical migraines that I’ve been getting, hour long workouts just aren’t happening for me these days. My body is cuing me to rest, to downregulate, and my nervous system is demanding it.
But just last fall, I found myself in a season of push, and I went all in on crushing over 120 days of progressive overload. We are allowed to do both. [00:05:00] We can have seasons of both. As we prepare to launch our adrenal healing program on April 1st, which, by the way, I have more info coming on that in a future podcast here soon, I have to assume that as we literally come out of winter and into spring, some of us are ready to truly bloom and crush it in our fitness goals.
While others of us may actually be craving almost a second winter so that we can rest and reboot. And here’s what I’ve learned. Our seasons of rest make us stronger for the seasons of struggle and push. While it may not always be welcomed by those of us who struggle to be still, it fills our tank for the days that we need that fuel and fire.
Remember, as we age, our adrenals start to take over for sex hormone production. Over the age of 40, our cortisol is actually extra taxed. We’re in a state of stress whether we realize it or not. So if we’re not doing this self assessment, if we’re not figuring out when to slow down and when to push, we can actually be working against our physiology.
If we aren’t taking this time to pause and reflect on our energy, [00:06:00] is it waxing? Is it waning? Is it good? Is it low? If we just do the things that we’ve always done because that’s what we’ve always done, well, we can wind up feeling pretty darn stuck. Let this podcast be your permission to either get after it or slow down.
A locked gas pedal often rams into a wall, and a locked brake keeps us from going anywhere. So, finding the balance between the two is where the magic happens. That’s where we can really coast along the highway.
As I look at my spring, I can’t wait to slow it down. In fact, as my kids sports and activities ramp up, I get excited thinking about daily walks outside with my dog in the sunshine. Even some yoga sessions on my mat. Just last week, I got to sit in on the filming of our Adrenal Healing Program. We were filming the Vinyasa Flow Workouts by Jen Zanders.
And can I just say, I am so excited to finally be able to carry her with me in my pocket.
I love lifting weights and I love pushing myself in the home gym, but I can just feel a tug on my heart right now to turn it inward as we enter warmer weather and a change in literal seasons. What is your [00:07:00] internal compass telling you? We offer a lot of value and information here on the podcast, but I find that so many women land in my inbox, overwhelmed, asking where to begin, how to stay motivated, or what to do next, when the reality is, we know the answer.
We know what we uniquely need. We just have to listen. I hope this was helpful. I hope you take a moment to ask yourself, what is my energy? When we can live in alignment with that, we can truly start to tap into something beautiful. As lunar beings, we are meant to change. As women who undergo multiple hormonal transitions, we are meant to be flexible.
We are always evolving. Don’t forget to evolve. Sometimes leaving the path less taken is exactly the path we need. We just have to pause and reflect. Until next time, my friends, I hope this is helpful. We’ll talk soon. [00:08:00]
